Health & Fitness

It is that time of the year - When Bees & Hornets move into your walls.

Ahhh Spring is here. Hence the emergence of every stinging insect is upon us.  This article is not designed to tell you what you should do (which would be to hire Southern Wildlife to do a chemical-free hive removal) but moreso to advise you on what NOT to do.

If you have a hive that is starting in your walls, sometimes there are no insects seen inside the home.  But a telling sign is when all of a sudden you have a yellowjacket in the room.  You take care of it and the next day there are two more and this perhaps is a sign that somewhere within the confines of your walls or vents that you might have a hive growing.

The knee-jerk reaction is to spray the opening or perhaps less ambitiously to call a Pest Control company to spray the hive.  This is what I want you to reconsider.  First of all, the insects needs to be identified.  If it is a honey bee we need to keep them alive, our future depends on them.  Secondly, if you spray or dust the hive you can kill off some of the hunters (workers) and drive the rest of the colony deeper into your walls.  It also creates a chain reaction where the Queen or Foundress starts producing more pupa in order to preserve the colony.  This is the opposite of what you want to have happen.

Owning a Wildlife Removal company in Johns Creek has blessed us with the experiences to be able to determine and advise against this plan of action.   What needs to be done is the entire hive needs to safely be removed from the wall.  Incurring the least amount of damage and while cleaning up the hive, pupa and possible honey in the walls so it does not attract ants, roaches or rats.
