Jason Kenney and CaroMia To Perform at Autrey Mill Unplugged Concert

Each a talented "Americana" singer/songwriter in their own right, Jason and CaroMia are performing together on Feb. 20 in Johns Creek.

Have you checked out the “Unplugged” concert series at Autrey Mill yet? On the third Saturday of each month, Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center transforms into a beautiful, unique, indoor concert venue, with wonderful acoustics, a great sound system, and a great vibe inside an old wooden church dating back to the 1860s. On February 20th, we’re excited to welcome Jason Kenney and CaroMia together to our stage! Tickets are $15, or $10.50 for Autrey Mill members or John’s Creek residents. The venue is lovely and seats are limited, so please purchase your tickets early, by going to: http://autreymill.org/performances.htm.

We begin at 7PM with a pre-show social gathering inside the Summerour House, with complimentary refreshments and wine and beer for purchase, then walk next door to the Old Warsaw Church for the indoor concert at 8PM. These concerts have been very popular, so please plan ahead!

Most of Jason Kenney’s life has been spent nestled in the beautiful mountains and community of Dahlonega, GA. He started playing guitar when he was 14 to impress a girl. The girl didn’t work out, but he stuck with the music and it has served him well.

Formerly of HomeGrown Revival and The Kenney-Blackmon String Band, Jason is a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin, banjo) and songwriter. Since 2003, he has released four full-length albums and collaborated on many others, including Corey Smith’s “In The Mood” and “The Good Life.”

Jason has shared the stage with many talented artists including Jonathan Byrd, Corey Smith, Zac Brown, Amy Ray (Indigo Girls), Col. Bruce Hampton, Donna the Buffalo, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, John Keane, Larry Keel, Ike Stubblefield, Kevin Kinney, Darrell Scott, Jeff Mosier, and The Atlanta Ballet.

Jason Kenney’s new record, “Turn This Sorrow Into Joy,” was released on April 15th, 2014. Produced and recorded by Grammy nominee John Keane, the album features an all-star line-up of musicians including: Amy Ray (Indigo Girls), Leah Calvert, John Keane, Rob Henson, Chris Enghauser, Jamie Hood, and Graham Terry (Tornado Riders).

“Make no mistake, ‘Turn This Sorrow Into Joy,’ by Jason Kenney, is a Folk record. Though listeners will be tempted to relate it to Mumford and Sons or Avett Brothers because of its personal storytelling and genre defying instrumentation, it is a much truer representation of an American Folk record. It deserves comparison with Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie in its call to the downhearted and weary to carry on, together.

Songs like ‘Come All Ye Tenderhearted’ sweep the listener into the movement and remind us of the power of a song to change the world – or to simply brighten a day. Using simple melodies and complex textures ‘Turn This Sorrow Into Joy’ demonstrates great respect for the history of American Folk music with ample modern flare. Seeger lead a never ending sing along and before you even know all the words, you’ll be singing along with Jason.” — Scott Mecredy, Music On Main Street For more information, visit www.jasonkenneymusic.com.

About CaroMia:

The biography of CaroMia Tiller reads like an adventure novel, action-packed and thrilling. From a very young age this free spirit has been making her own rules about what is and is not possible. The undeniable soul-shaking power behind her voice seems to draw on a few lifetimes’ worth of experience. From a world of inspiration CaroMia distills an arresting and immediately recognizable sound: her own signature blend of rootsy Americana, Soul and Blues.

As a child CaroMia taught herself to sing and play piano, as a pre-teen she rejected opportunities in the music biz to stay true to her craft, and as a teen she bought her first guitar and flew to India to learn to play it. She studied Carnatic vocals with South Indian masters, then spent time floating around India, North Africa and Southeast Asia on her own before busking her way through Europe as a successful street performer (her favorite gig yet). Returning to the US, she moved to Asheville, NC sight unseen - and found herself at home.

In May 2012, CaroMia released her second studio album ‘The Spectrum’. The Spectrum garnered immediate glowing reviews from press and radio play around the South-East. What truly sets this music apart is CaroMia’s voice, a goosebump-inducing powerhouse of vocal control. Her adoring fans compare her live musical presence to the likeness of Janis Joplin, Adele, and even “Ray Charles in a little white girl’s body”. As a songwriter she draws from the deep wells of folk, soul, R&B and gospel, weaving these influences into songs that are fresh and timeless. It’s old, it’s new, it’s something you have felt before on a warm summer afternoon- the sun on your skin and breeze in your hair. You’ll play it as you fall in love and also when you feel alone. There is something for just about everyone in CaroMia’s music. For more information on CaroMia, please visit: http://www.caromiamusic.com/

Many thanks to the City of Johns Creek for their support.
