Johns Creek To Buy Land For New Fire Station

The Johns Creek City Council authorized the purchase of 1.8 acres of land on Kimball Bridge Road.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — City leaders in Johns Creek are moving forward with plans to construct a fourth fire station to serve its residents. The City Council at its Jan. 22 meeting voted to authorize the purchase of 1.8 acres of land at 4795 Kimball Bridge Road.

The purchase clocks in at $379,000, and the location was identified to improve response times in northern and central Johns Creek, the city added. With minimal land available to purchase in this strategic location, the City Council moved forward with the authorization recognizing this opportunity may not be as readily available in the future.

“We are very pleased with the support the City Council continues to provide with respect to public safety,” said City Manager Warren Hutmacher. “The purchase of this property ensures that we have locked in an appropriate location to design a fire station that improves service to the residents.”

The city notes this location will improve response times to calls along Sargent Road, Jones Bridge Road north of Buice Road, McGinnis Ferry Road west of Medlock Bridge Road, Abbotts Bridge Road west of Medlock Bridge Road, and Kimball Bridge Road. Roughly 8,867 residents who reside within this area will be better served as a result of the new fire station.

Johns Creek operates three additional fire stations — No. 61 at 10265 Medlock Bridge Parkway, No. 62 at 10925 Rogers Circle and No. 63 at 3165 Old Alabama Road — formerly controlled by Fulton County that were in place when the city incorporated in 2006. However, with the growth of the city, the Fire Department’s long term strategic plan recommends a fourth fire station.

City staff has a 60-day due diligence period before the purchase is finalized. The exact timeline for construction has yet to be determined, and the city will present options to the City Council regarding resources required to operate this fourth station.
