Johns Creek Buys 58 Acres Along Chattahoochee River

The land is located between the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and the Cauley Creek property the city already owns.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Johns Creek leaders have authorized Mayor Mike Bodker to execute a purchase and sale agreement for roughly 58 acres of land along the Chattahoochee River to be used for park space.

The property is sandwiched between the Cauley Creek property, which the city bought in late 2015, and the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

“I am very excited about this land purchase and the increased recreational and open space opportunity it provides to our residents,” said Mayor Mike Bodker. “The City Council was eager to continue efforts to address Johns Creek’s growing park needs and was able to do so with this valuable piece of property at a reasonable price.”

The total purchase price for the property a little more than $9 million, and the Trust for Public Land has agreed to assist Johns Creek by contributing funds to bring the price of the property down $850,000 without any deed restrictions. This results in a net purchase price of $8.2 million, or $141,379 per acre.

The final determination of how the land will be used will be planned through a public process. The purchase of this property provides an opportunity to revisit the Cauley Creek Park property to develop a master plan that incorporates the Quail Hollow property and Cauley Creek as a unified property. The Quail Hollow purchase is mostly wooded and lends itself to a mostly passive purpose; which provides an opportunity to address additional community needs and preserve greenspace. The purchase will provide the city the ability to further plan for a multi-use trail system along the Chattahoochee River.
