The city will pay $640,000 for land at 4840 and 4860 Morton Road appraised at almost $1.3 million, according a news release. The property was formerly owned by Georgia Power Co. and Alpharetta Family Medical Clinic.

Pocket parks, which are smaller parks at typically 4 acres or less, are designed to serve nearby neighborhoods.

These parks tend to be left as green space with the possibility for playgrounds, have limited facilities and little or no parking.

With limited large land areas available, Johns Creek is exploring possible pocket park locations around the city as a way to address the community’s desire for more parks, including 2.4 acres at Bell and Boles roads.

Specific use for the property will be determined by a Recreation and Parks Master Plan that is currently being formulated with input from the public and the City Council.

One proposed concept for the park would cost about $1.2 million, and could be developed over years.
