Johns Creek Doctor Qualifies for City Council Race

Johns Creek physician Dr. Nazeera Dawood on Monday officially qualified to run for the Johns Creek City Council.

Dr. Dawood is seeking the Post 5 seat in the nonpartisan race. The seat was vacated last year when former Council member Kelly Stewart resigned to run for the Georgia House District 50 seat.
“As a fiscal conservative I will work to ensure that your tax dollars are spent wisely,” said Dr. Dawood, who is seeking the non-partisan Post 5 seat. “I will oppose all tax increases and work to be your voice on City Council. As our next City Council member, I propose working collaboratively with key stakeholders to address our transportation needs. I will support new technologies to keep our traffic flowing efficiently.”

Dr. Dawood is the associate president of her Rotary Club, serves as Johns Creek Student Leadership’s school liaison for Northview High School and has been recognized as a We are Emory, 100 Community Builders.
In recognition of her work securing a $9 million grant on behalf of Fulton County children and families suffering from asthma, the Fulton County Commission on Oct. 1, 2014, issued a proclamation declaring that date Dr. Nazeera Dawood Appreciation Day.
She is a 2014 Johns Creek Citizens Police Academy graduate and currently serves as a volunteer on the Johns Creek Police Department’s Citizens Auxiliary Patrol Services (CAPS).
Dr. Dawood has also received the Public Service Award from American Tamil Medical Association (ATMA).
She is a 2014 graduate of Leadership Johns Creek whose team project included the mural makeover of Newtown Park’s walking track tunnel, the largest and most well received of any public art project here. Most recently, Dr. Dawood was unanimously voted 2015 Rotarian of the Year by her club council.
After graduating from medical school, Dr. Dawood earned her masters in public health at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She worked at Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, and today works as an advisor on preventative medicine for Fulton County.
