Johns Creek Escapes Brunt of Friday Storms

Storms that caused damage in metro Atlanta spared Johns Creek.

By all accounts it seems Johns Creek was spared the brunt of Friday night's storms that left damage in East Cobb and Paulding County, and resulted in the death of an Alpharetta woman.

"Fortunately, we didn’t have anything reported," said Rosemary Taylor, communications manager for the Johns Creek Police Department and City of Johns Creek.

Despite the fact that storm radar picked up on a tornado that apparently crossed Haynes Bridge, Old Alabama, Jones Bridge, State Bridge and Medlock Bridge roads, the light of Saturday morning wasn't showing anything out of the ordinary.

Neighbors to the west of the city weren't quite as fortunate.

According to , the storm downed trees in East Cobb Park, and Cobb Police on Saturday morning shut down Roswell Road in both directions between Providence Road and Robinson Road East as crews worked on downed power lines.

In Alpharetta, police are investigating the death of an elderly woman who hid in a storm drain to escape the storm and later drowned.

The storm appears to have caused  in Paulding County, with several aircraft at the Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport affected, according to Dallas-Hiram Patch.
