Johns Creek To Hold Property Tax Rate Hearings

State law requires the city to hold three public hearings before city leaders adopt the final rate.

The has also published its five-year history of its tax digest, property revenues and millage rate, which can be viewed online.

Each year, the Board of Tax Assessors is required to review the assessed value of taxable property in the county. When the trends of prices on properties that have recently sold in the county indicate there has been an increase in the fair market value of any specific property, the Board of Tax Assessors is required by law to re-determine the value of such property and adjust the assessment. This is called a reassessment.

Johns Creek has incurred growth and the reassessment value effects the rollback rate, which is calculated to be a 7.43 percent increase for 2015.

Before Johns Creek leaders can set the final millage rate for 2015, Georgia law requires public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on this tax increase.

All concerned citizens are invited to attend and participate in the public hearings which will be held in the Council Chambers at Johns Creek City Hall, which is located at 12000 Findley Road Suite 300.

Meeting time and dates are: 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 15; and 7 p.m., Monday, July 27.

Action to adopt the final millage rate for 2015 is scheduled to take place during the July 27 City Council meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m.
