Johns Creek Moves Ahead On Abbotts Bridge Road Widening

Georgia DOT will purchase the right of way and easements needed to widen the road between Parsons and Medlock Bridge roads.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The Johns Creek City Council has approved a contract to allow the Georgia Department of Transportation to acquire right of way and easements needed to widen Abbotts Bridge Road.

The contract is for the purchase of right of way along Abbotts Bridge Road, also known as S.R. 120, between Parsons and Medlock Bridge roads.

Abbotts Bridge Road from Jones Bridge to Parsons roads is currently under construction while the segment between Medlock Bridge Road to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard is currently under design, the city notes.

The current mile-long project under construction would widen the highway as well as add a center turn lane. It also calls for including landscaped medians and 10-foot-wide pedestrian trails on each side.

The Jones Bridge-to-Parsons Road section is expected to be completed by the fall 2017, weather permitting.

This project is part of a series of four projects for S.R. 120 (Abbotts Bridge-Kimball Bridge roads) planned by the Georgia Department of Transportation and the city.

Ultimately, the S.R. 120 upgrade will stretch between Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Gwinnett County through the city of Johns Creek to Kimball Bridge Road at State Bridge Road on the Alpharetta border.

Improvements to the corridor will include widening, landscaping, and safety improvements. The tentative timeline, contingent on funding, calls for all four projects to be finished in 2022.
