Johns Creek Neighborhood Paving Program Enters Third Year

Crews with the Johns Creek Public Works Department are now tackling the streets in the Cameron Forest neighborhood.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The third year of the city of Johns Creek's Neighborhood Paving Program is now underway.

Crews with the city's Public Works Department are tackling the streets in the Cameron Forest neighborhood, and they are slated to pave 16 more subdivisions throughout the year.

A repaving schedule is available on the city's website, and is subject to change due to weather and availability of additional crews, Johns Creek notes. Since 2015, Johns Creek has repaved 60 subdivisions. The city increased funding for the project from $1.5 million to $5 million in fiscal year 2016 in an effort to accelerate the repaving program timeline by a year, completing the originally scheduled five-year plan in four years.

Johns Creek also developed its prioritized list in 2014, when it used a consultant with a specially equipped vehicle to drive each of Johns Creek's streets to gauge their conditions. Using the resulting data as a guide, the Public Works staff developed a repaving plan for the city's subdivisions. The physical survey of city streets revealed that many of them had a substandard Pavement Quality Index.

The PQI is a 1-100 scale developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to measure cracking, potholes, rutting, weathering and other factors. Low PQI scores reflect a lower condition of the pavement. The lower the PQI score, the higher the priority when scheduling the repaving. The city’s plan seeks to bring all neighborhoods in Johns Creek to a minimum PQI of 65.
