Johns Creek Passes Halfway Mark On Neighborhood Repaving Program

Johns Creek’s neighborhood repaving program has surpassed the halfway mark as crews systematically work though the list of subdivisions targeted this year, and people seem glad to have their streets resurfaced.

River Club resident Kathy Webb said she and her neighbors were very pleased at how efficient the repaving crews were.

“They were in and out,” she said. “I think they did a good job. The pavement looks a whole better and it’s a lot smoother. I think everyone is happy.”

Gary Zermuehlen of Silver Ridge subdivision was pleased as well, saying, “You all did an amazing job in our neighborhood. It looks fantastic.”

As of Aug. 10, the city has completed repaving 18 neighborhoods, totaling almost 20 miles of new asphalt. Among the subdivisions repaved was Doublegate, one of the largest subdivisions with public streets in Johns Creek, with 5.5 miles of streets.

Thus far, crews have completed resurfacing in:

• Reserve at Foxdale
• Estates at Wellington
• Surrey Park
• Jones Bridge Crossing
• North Bridges
• Silver Ridge
• Hunter’s Forest
• Morton Chase
• Aviary Ridge
• Chessington Chase
• Doublegate
• Forrest Lake
• Farmbrook
• Linkwood
• River Club

The city has now scheduled 34 subdivisions for repaving in 2015, the first year of a multi-year resurfacing program. The City Council recently added Chartwell subdivision to the list; you can click here to see the list of subdivisions planned to be repaved this year.

When repaving crews come to your subdivision, the city wants you to remember three things: do not park on the street, turn off your sprinkler system and be advised that the contractor may need to temporarily park equipment on the street.

Starting in the spring, the Public Works Department began tackling the long-term program to upgrade the condition of all of the city’s subdivision streets.

When Johns Creek became a city in December 2006, it inherited a road network in need of maintenance. The city chose to focus first on repairing and improving its major roads.

A consultant drove a specially equipped vehicle down each of the city’s streets in 2011 to gauge their conditions. Using that data as a guide, the Public Works staff developed a repaving plan for the city’s subdivisions.

In March 2015, with the plan worked out and the funding in place, the City Council gave the program a green light to begin paving. To learn more about the program and the repaving process, visit the city’s neighborhood repaving page.
