Johns Creek Police To Host Drug Take-Back Day
The Police Department's event will be held Saturday, April 28 at Emory Johns Creek Hospital.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Emory Johns Creek Hospital will team up with Johns Creek police to provide an opportunity for you to dump unwanted and unused medications. Both entities host a Drug Take-Back Day, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Emory Johns Creek Hospital.
Hospital officials encourage the community to participate by dropping off unused or expired medication at the hospital. Please note that needles or liquids will not be accepted.
According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. The report shows that many abused prescription drugs were acquired from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The Drug Take-Back Day event, coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

According to the DEA, more than 4,200 local and tribal law enforcement agencies collected more than 912,000 pounds of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for disposal at over 5,300 collection sites in November 2017. Since launching the initiative in the fall of 2010, more than 9 million pounds — or more than 4,500 tons — of potentially dangerous drugs have been removed from circulation, the agency added.
