Johns Creek Police Recognize Officers for 'Exceptional' Service

The Johns Creek Police Department recognized several officers for exceptional public service at the 2014 Johns Creek Police Awards Banquet Dec. 6 at St. Ives Country Club.

“We have set a high standard for professionalism and service in Johns Creek,” said Police Chief Ed Densmore. “Any number of officers could have won these awards, but we chose the officers who we believe have consistently exceeded expectations.”

Officers were nominated by peers and chosen by a select committee of officers and command staff.

• Tyler Seymour was named Officer of the Year for consistently high performance, exemplified by his extraordinary efforts to find shelter for a veteran living in his broken-down car.
• Sgt. Derrick Wilson received the Leadership Award for his dedication, smart decisions, and compassion, such as when he had to tell parents of a teenaged traffic victim that their child had been killed.
• Cpl. Jimmy Marshall received the Chief’s Award for his untiring work in the community to raise money for Special Olympics of Georgia.
• Records Clerk Selena Crum was selected Employee of the Year for her outstanding work performance.
• Officers Kenneth Kennebrew and Dmitri Caldwell received Exceptional Duty Awards for going above and beyond the call of duty: Kennebrew attempted to save a family’s dog in a burning house. Caldwell established close ties in his assigned subdivision.
• Sgt. Todd Hood was given the Honorable Service Award for his quick action in chasing down and capturing three burglars responsible for multiple entering auto cases and residential burglaries.
• Cpl. Robert Russo earned the Physical Fitness Award.
• Cpl. Matthew Stocks and Cpl. Charles Kistler received the Police Cross Award for arresting a violent man who had just beaten another man unconscious.
• Officer Jonathan Whitley earned the Lifesaving Award for resuscitating a man who had suffered a heart attack on a golf course in November.
• The Criminal Investigations Division was tapped as Squad of the Year for its members’ ability to juggle heavy caseloads, and willingness to work extra hours to solve crimes.
• Michael Barker was chosen as Volunteer of the Year for his computer assistance with complicated internet crimes.
