Johns Creek Prepares For 10th Birthday

The city's celebration will be held Nov. 5 at Johns Creek High School.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Johns Creek will celebrate 10 years of cityhood on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Johns Creek High School.

The party marking the city's 10th birthday begins at 5 p.m. and will run until bout 8 p.m., culminating in a festive fireworks display.

“We are proud of all that has been accomplished by our city over the last ten years,” said Mayor Mike Bodker. “We began with the desire for more local control and are now recognized both regionally and nationally as one the best places to raise a family, one of the safest cities in the country, and just an all around fantastic place to live and work. We look forward to celebrating this great milestone with our exceptional community.”

The 10-Year Anniversary Celebration will feature a parachutist, live musical performances by the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra, a Battle of the Bands between Johns Creek High School and Centennial High School, and School of Rock.

There will be a special appearance by Ms. Georgia 2016, Patricia Ford, who will announce winners of the Exceptional City Essay Contest. The event performances will be emceed by Atlanta news icon, Karen Greer.

Join neighbors, friends, and family to visit vendor tables, grab a bite at one of the featured food trucks including: Heavenly Dolce, Cousins Maine Lobster, A Haute Cookie, and Big C’s Chicago Kitchen. The first 500 guests to the Heavenly Dolce truck receive a special Johns Creek Birthday Treat!

Kids can also enjoy the face painter and inflatables.

On July 18, 2006 the residents of Johns Creek voted 84 percent in favor cityhood with 48 percent voter turnout.

On Nov. 7, 2006 the residents of Johns Creek elected their inaugural City Council to include: Mayor Mike Bodker and City Council members Randall Johnson, Karen Richardson, Liz Hausmann, Dan McCabe, Ivan Figueroa and Bev Miller.

Soon after, on Dec. 1, 2006 the city of Johns Creek officially incorporated.

The event and parking is free. Handicap drop-off and parking will be available at the entrance to the Johns Creek High School stadium. Overflow parking will be available at State Bridge Crossing Elementary School, located directly across the street from the high school.
