Johns Creek Selects Final City Manager Candidate

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Mayor Mike Bodker has nominated Ed Densmore for the position of city manager. The mayor announced his intention at the City Council Meeting held Monday.

“We began the search process with the primary goal of securing a highly-qualified and accomplished visionary who demonstrates a distinct familiarity, energy, and passion for Johns Creek,” Bodker said. “Ed Densmore brings an exceptional and intimate knowledge of our community along with great respect and admiration from current city staff for being an unparalleled leader.”

The city worked with Strategic Government Resources to conduct a nationwide search for experienced city manager candidates. From a large pool of applicants and candidates, the mayor and Strategic Government Resources identified Densmore as the ideal candidate to lead the city in oversight of strategic programs, teams, and services.

“Most appealing to me is that I am able to continue serving the residents of this great community in a new role and help orchestrate success and achievements across different segments and projects,” Densmore said. “We have a unique opportunity here in Johns Creek. We are expanding our city parks and amenities, addressing critical infrastructure improvements, including our roads and stormwater assets, as well as carefully guiding growth and development to uphold the quality of life our residents and businesses have come to expect.”

Densmore served as the acting city manager for the past eight months and holds the distinction of being the city’s first and only police chief, a role he has held for the last 11 years. As police chief, Densmore launched the Johns Creek Police Department in 2008, and prior to that served as police chief for the City of Alpharetta. Densmore holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University and is a graduate of the Command College at Columbus State University and the FBI National Academy.

Following the state-mandated 14-day vetting period, the mayor and city council members will vote on Densmore’s official appointment at the March 9 City Council Meeting. Densmore will continue as the police chief until a new police chief has been selected.
