Johns Creek Teen Named To EarthEcho Youth Leadership Council

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- A Johns Creek teenager will serve on a newly formed EarthEco International Youth Leadership Council.

Evan Barnard of Johns Creek was selected to serve on the Council from applicants from across the country and internationally. EarthEcho International is a nonprofit nonprofit organization that give youth the tools and resources to advocate for a sustainable future.
Comprised of 15 young environmental leaders ages 15 to 22, the EarthEcho Youth Leadership Council will help to expand the impact of the organization’s programs and partnerships worldwide.

Serving two-year terms, the Council members will: provide guidance for the organization’s youth-facing programs and resources; advise partner organizations and other external groups on the development of youth strategies; represent the organization at events, conferences and trainings; and serve as ambassadors for EarthEcho programs by executing environmental service projects in their local communities.
Each of EarthEcho’s 2016 Youth Leadership Council members have "demonstrated a dedication to addressing and working to solve a range of environmental problems through successful programs and organizations," the organization said.

Evan Barnard works with the visually impaired community to provide education and access to nature by building Braille trails. A Braille trail is a nature trail with Braille signage and guide ropes so that the visually impaired can access the trail independently.
He also founded Nature for All to connect students with disabilities with outdoor programs, created the Georgia Young Birders Club and conducts scientific research with soil.
Awarded the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes and a national Arbor Day Foundation Education Innovation Award, Evan serves as a national youth ambassador for the Mentor Foundation USA and Global Youth Service Day leader for Youth Service America.
