Johns Creek Unemployment Rate Climbs to 5.8 Percent

The city's unemployment rate is still significantly lower than the rate it had in January 2013.

The city of Johns Creek saw a slight boost in its unemployment rate for the month of January.

The city's rate clocks in at 5.8 percent, up from 5.5 in December 2013, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. It's also significantly lower than the January 2013 rate of 7 percent.

Unemployment rates for surrounding cities for the month of January include Alpharetta at 5.4 percent, Dunwoody at 5.3 percent, Kennesaw at 7.3, Marietta at 7.2, Roswell at 5.2 percent and Sandy Springs at 5.7 percent.

The metro Atlanta unemployment rate also rose in January to 7.2 percent from 6.8 percent in December.

The Georgia Department of Labor said the metro rate increased because the area lost mostly 39,700 seasonal jobs, and the total number of jobs dipped to 2.40 million from 2.44 million in December.
