The City Council voted at its July 27 meeting to hold its rate of 4.614 mills in place, the same it has been since the city incorporated in 2006.

Holding the millage rate in place will result in a roughly $1.27 million increase in revenue for Johns Creek. City staff estimates holding the rate steady will generate about $18.4 million in revenue for city operations.

Reducing the millage rate to the rollback level of 4.295 mills -- the rate that would generate the same amount of revenue if no reassessments had occurred -- would have generated about $17.2 million in tax revenue for the city.

While it did not implement a tax hike, the revenue jump propelled by new construction and reassessments required the city to hold three public hearings and to advertise a tax increase, as state law dictates.

The City Council also approved awarding 2015 Arts Grants in the amount of $29,700 to:

Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center

  • $3,300 for Unplugged Music Series

Friends of Northeast/Spruill Oaks Library

  • $300 for For the Birds in Wood
