Johns Creek's Finest 5K On Saturday Benefits Special Olympics

The event benefits Special Olympics Georgia and is a dog (on a leash), strolled, wheelchair and walker friendly race.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The Johns Creek's Finest 5K will be held 8:15 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at Shakerag Park. Before the race, which is dog-, stroller-, wheelchair- and walker-friendly, will be preceded by a one-mile fun run. The fun run, designated for children, will kick off at 7:45 a.m.

The 5K is $30 while the fun run is $10. Race-day registration will begin at 6:45 a.m. April 13 at River Trail Middle School, which is at 10795 Rogers Circle.

Following the race, there will be awards for the top male and female finishers for each age group.

The mission of Special Olympics Georgia is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. The goal is to help bring persons with intellectual disabilities into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected, and given the chance to become useful and productive citizens.
