The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 15, and will be co-hosted by the city of Johns Creek and Panera Bread Co. Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., residents can drop their items off at Panera Bread, located at 11715 Medlock Bridge Road.

To avoid identity theft, the Federal Trade Commission recommends shredding charge receipts, copies of credit applications, insurance forms, physician statements, checks and bank statements, expired charge cards and credit offers. Documents at the event will be shred on-site, and all of the paper will be recycled.

The event also allows people to dispose of fats, oils and grease that can clog underground pipes and cause sewage to back-up in streets and homes.

Fluorescent tubes and curly compact fluorescent bulbs contain mercury, which lingers in the environment for years. Keep Johns Creek Beautiful has special equipment that destroys the lights and stores the material and gases for recovery later by a certified fluorescent-light recycling firm.
