Komen Grants $50K to TurningPoint in JC
Affiliate grants $2.2 million total to 22 breast health organizations to fight breast cancer in metro Atlanta.

The Greater Atlanta Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure this week granted TurningPoint Women’s Healthcare $50,000 to its Breast Cancer Survivor Rehabilitation Support Program. The organization has received 11 grants from Komen Atlanta since 2004, totaling nearly $525,000.
TurningPoint is located at 11180 State Bridge Road in Johns Creek.
The Breast Cancer Survivor Rehabilitation Support Program offers specialized, integrated and evidence-based breast cancer rehabilitation. TurningPoint provides physical therapy, exercise, massage therapy, counseling, nutritional counseling and educational programs that improve the quality of live for women with breast cancer. The program aims to target the lack of awareness in the medical and rehabilitation community that are initial barriers to breast health care.

“TurningPoint’s survivor rehabilitation program fills a breast healthcare disparity in the Metro Atlanta area by aiming to improve the quality of life of women affected by breast cancer,” said Executive Director Kelly Dolan. “Komen Atlanta is pleased to fund an organization dedicated to providing necessary resources to ensure that all women have the chance to combat and survive this disease.”
Komen Atlanta is the largest funding organization of breast cancer support in Atlanta and strives to bridge the gap between healthcare disparities in the community. The affiliate will begin its 2012-2013 fiscal year by granting $2.2 million to 22 community breast health programs that will target Atlanta’s underserved communities. Komen Atlanta will also provide $600,000 to support national research efforts to finding a cure for the disease. Since its inception in 1991, the organization has raised more than $33 million to help enable women to detect and survive breast cancer.
