The Molly Ringwalds will open the series on Saturday, June 20 at the Newtown Park Amphitheater.
“The Molly Ringwalds came highly recommended because not only do they play music from the 1980s, they dress like bands from the 1980s, such as Devo and Queen,” said Recreation Manager Kirk Franz. “They are guaranteed to bring out nostalgia for the glory days of 1980s rock ‘n’ roll.”

The concert series features tribute bands and acts that harken to the rock’ n’ roll 1980s and 1990s , including Drivin N Cryin.
On Friday, July 24, Electric Avenue plays more favorites from the 1980s. Electric Avenue’s music is similar to Yacht Rock Schooner, whose 1970s song list was a hit at the Amphitheater in 2014.
Then, the Billy Joel tribute band, The Stranger, featuring native Long Islander Mike Santoro, performs on Saturday, Aug. 22. The Stranger has played at many locations in the region, including several House of Blues venues and at the Fillmore in Charlotte.
The series closes Saturday, Sept. 19, with the popular ‘90s band, Drivin N Cryin, whose album “Fly Me Courageous” album went gold. The Atlanta-based group has toured with Neil Young and Soul Asylum, and has remained popular throughout the southeast.
Food trucks will be returning to the venue in 2015, but concert-goers will notice some changes. The rows of chairs under the amphitheater will be replaced with round tables that can be reserved by calling 678-512-3200.
This arrangement will allow for more room for dancing. The concerts are free. Doors to the concerts will open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Amphitheater is located at Newtown Park, which is at 3150 Old Alabama Road in Johns Creek.
