New Digital Marquee Installed at Barnwell Elementary School

The marquee sign was purchased with proceeds from Barnival, the PTA's 2013 spring carnival.

The Barnwell Elementary School PTA recently hosted a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony to officially present the school with a state of the art digital marquee.

PTA board member Anne Johnson gave the dedication speech and Principal Dr. Norman C. Sauce III had the ribbon cutting honors.

Volunteer Susan Dobias and board member Anne Johnson researched the 18-month project, which spanned three PTA boards. Johnson coordinated the project through its entirety, working closely with school administration, Fulton County Schools Facilities Department and the city of Johns Creek.

“Barnwell Elementary School wishes to thank our award-winning Barnwell PTA for their sustained and dedicated work to bring this amazing gift to our school community,” Sauce said. “We truly appreciate that they spared no expense of time, effort, financial support, and planning to ensure our school can share our amazing stories of success with the community- at-large through our brand new digital marquee. In today’s age of digital literacy and instant access to information, Barnwell Elementary can now share with our community vital information, celebrate successes, and breaking news in real time. This is a critical tool towards fully ushering our school into a new digital world; not to mention our marquee’s aesthetics beautifully mesh with the surrounding area! This is all due to the great work our PTA executive board envisioned over the last 3 years by pursuing this goal and stopping at nothing to ensure that is now a reality! On behalf of the entire school community, I wish to thank our Barnwell PTA for this gift to our school.”

The new marquee sign was purchased with proceeds from the Barnwell PTA’s 2013 spring carnival known as Barnival. This community event brings families together in a fun and welcoming environment while raising funds to further special projects for the school.

Proceeds from the 2014 Barnival were donated to the school’s new STEM center, which debuted this school year.

The 2015 Barnival will be held on May 1 at Barnwell Elementary and proceeds will go directly to update the school media center. The carnival committee is currently reaching out to local businesses for sponsorships. The new marquee has added another level of exposure that can be provided to local business sponsors.

In addition, the Barnwell PTA is adding a webpage devoted specifically to this event where parents will be directed to purchase ticket packages with the goal of housing sponsor logos and special offers to make it beneficial to families and sponsors alike.
