JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Parents and students who need a safe way to cross the street near Dolvin Elementary School will now have a way to do so thanks to the city of Johns Creek.
The city recently installed a new pedestrian crosswalk near the school, which is located at the corner of Buice and Jones Bridge roads.
This new crosswalk features a landscaped island, in-pavement lights, and is completely solar powered, the city said.

It's also the first in Johns Creek to have Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, which feature an irregular flash pattern that is similar to emergency flashers on public safety vehicles.
The system works the same as a pedestrian signal at a traffic light. The pedestrian pushes the button to activate the lights, checks to make sure traffic is stopping before crossing and then the pedestrian crosses the road.

After a set time sufficient for a pedestrian to fully cross, the lights will then deactivate.
