That was the catch phrase of the day as Mike Bodker delivered the city's 10th annual State of the City Address Friday morning at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
"The goal was to have a simple, yet aspirational mission statement by which all things could be judged," he said.

He also highlighted the new vision, which reads, “to provide for an exceptional residential community with ease of movement throughout, an alive town center, and a vibrant business community.”
The new mission and vision were the result of a two-day City Council work retreat in March. Council members also identified six specific goals to turn vision into reality and help ensure the long-term sustainability of the city.
The six goals include:
- Focus on transportation to provide a comprehensive transportation network that facilitates ease of movement throughout the city;
- Ensure a complete recreation and parks system that aligns with the goals and needs of Johns Creek;
- Implement a holistic economic development plan approach to address infrastructure workforce, community, and land development needs;
- Focus on government efficiency to develop an innovative and cost-effective approach to exceptional service delivery;
- Invest in public safety; and
- Peserve our residential character and enhance our sense of community.
As the city prepares to mark its 10th anniversary in 2016, Bodker also recognized the top-ranked school system, highly acclaimed medical facilities, large diverse international population and highly touted public safety as the foundation of Johns Creek’s reputation as a widely sought after community.
With a new mission, vision, and defined goals in place, the mayor closed out his speech with a call to action for increased public engagement as Johns Creek prepares to embark on its second decade.
“God did not put us here at this place and time to be ordinary," Bodker said. "Exceptional ideas come from exceptional people. Let’s continue to write our own history as we began this journey 10 years ago and prove each and every day that we are, and will continue to be nothing less than an exceptional city.”
