Northview Girls Tennis Team Wins 6A State Championship

The match was tied at 2-2 and came down to singles player, Kayleigh Yun-Thayer, who won her set to clinch the title for the team.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Northview High School's girls tennis team won its first 6A state championship title, the Futon County School System said.

The competitive match was tied at 2-2 and came down to line 3 singles player, Kayleigh Yun-Thayer. She won the first set in a tie break and was down 2-5 in the second set. Kayleigh won the next five games to win the set 7-5. Her win clinched the state championship trophy for Northview.

Congratulations to Chloe Brown and Sarah Yang, who also won their singles matches, and to fellow teammates Suma Yarabarla, Karina Limyadi, Daniela Rincon, Cody Lu, Ema Goh, Annie Feng, Mishka Maulik, Sherry Liang, and Tanvi Pucha. The Northview team is coached by Donna McCarthy.

Northview's season record was 17-1, and they also won the 6A Region Title. They were a 2 seed entering the Region Tournament.

Athletes winning individual awards for this year were:

  • Titan Award – Chloe Brown
  • MVP – Sarah Yang
  • Scholar Athlete – Annie Feng
  • Clutch Award – Kayleigh Yun-Thayer

“I’m extremely proud of these girls," Coach Donna McCarthy said. "They set the state championship as their goal and they achieved it! This is so exciting for them."
