Police Identify Woman Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting

The GBI said the 36-year-old woman ignored officers' commands to drop the knife she was carrying before she was shot.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released the identity of the woman who died Saturday morning in an officer-involved shooting in Johns Creek. The woman, identified as 36-year-old Shukri Ali Said, was pronounced dead at Emory Johns Creek Hospital following the April 28 incident near Northview High School.

Officers with the agency were dispatched just after 7 a.m. April 28 to a call of a "demented person armed with a knife" in the 300 block of Winherst Lane, said Police Department spokesperson Capt. Chris Byers.

The GBI said Said allegedly had threatened to kill a family member with a knife. Said was found near the intersection of Abbotts Bridge Road and Sweet Creek Road. Both Johns Creek police and the GBI said Said did not respond to officers' commands to drop the knife she was carrying.

Officers tried to de-escalate the situation by using a Taser and a foam exact impact round to get the woman to drop the knife, but Said "did not relinquish the knife," the GBI added.

Two officers fired their service weapons during the incident, striking the 36-year-old woman. Police and EMTs tried to render life-saving aid, but Said died at the hospital. An autopsy will be performed at the GBI Medical Examiner's Office in Decatur.
