Outdoor Burning Prohibited in Johns Creek

The temporary ban applies to controlled burning of yard debris, the city said.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The city of Johns Creek has become the second in north Fulton County to temporarily impose a ban on outdoor burning.

Due to the current weather conditions, the city on Thursday announced the ban.

Fire pits made of noncombustible materials, such as brick or stone, are usable "as long as you’re using them to cook food or to keep warm," the city states.

The ban applies to any controlled burning of yard debris.

The extreme dry weather, low humidity and current fire danger rating make outdoor burning an unsafe act, according to Johns Creek Fire Marshal Chad McGiboney.

“We want to make sure all residences and properties in our community are safe and therefore we need to take this precautionary measure,” said McGiboney. “The ban will be in place until weather conditions improve.

Johns Creek's decision follows a temporary policy implemented in the city of Milton.

Wildfires in extreme north Georgia continue to have an impact on the weather quality in metro Atlanta, as southerly winds push smoke from those blazes down the Blue Ridge Mountains and into the area.
