Pisgah’s Walters Named Softball Player of Year

Four other Patriots also named to all-state squad.

Mount Pisgah varsity softball player Morgan Walters was named the GHSA Class A Player of the Year. The junior third baseman led the Patriots in batting average (.500), slugging percentage (1.075), on base percentage (.598), walks (19), home runs (11), RBIs (41) and runs (42). Walters has committed to the University of Missouri.

In addition to Walters the Patriots also had four other players named to the GHSA Class A All-State team on Friday. Madison Wickline, Madison Claytor and Courtney Condon were all named First Team All-State, while Nicole Peters was named third team. 

Wickline, a senior outfielder, hit .424 with 29 runs scored and 13 RBIs.

Claytor, a catcher, hit .313, with 28 RBIs, 28 runs, nine doubles and two home runs for the Patriots this season. The senior has signed with Ohio University.

Condon, a pitcher and infielder, hit .350, with nine doubles, nine home runs, 29 runs scored, 40 RBIs and a .730 slugging percentage. In the mound the junior was 16-6 with a 1.97 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 138 innings.

Peters, a senior shortstop, hit .363 with 32 runs scored, 12 walks and 13 RBIs.

In addition to the All-State honors, Walters, Wickline, Claytor and Condon were also named first team All-Region 6-A. Peters was a second team All-Region selection, as was Jennifer Sapp. Sapp, a junior infielder and pitcher, hit .379 with 18 runs, 28 RBIs, three home runs and nine doubles. On the mound she was 7-4 with a 2.42 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 55 innings.

The Patriots finished the season 25-9 and captured the GHSA Class A Private School state championship.
