Johns Creek police say a caller posing as an officer is informing residents they have active warrants issued for their arrest.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The Johns Creek Police Department is warning its citizens about a scam going around metro Atlanta that's made an appearance in its jurisdiction.
The agency said Thursday that residents in Johns Creek as well as Alpharetta have received phone calls from a person posing as a police officer.
This caller informs the resident that he or she has an active arrest warrant issued by Johns Creek police.

Agency spokesperson Capt. Chris Byers said police believe the suspect was attempting to trick residents out of money by telling them they can pay off the warrant over the phone, but "they didn't get that far in the conversation though."
The number that shows up on a phone's caller ID is listed at 678-209-6111 and when it's dialed back, a recording states the number belongs to the police department.

Johns Creek police stresses the number is not associated with its agency or any of its divisions.
"Furthermore, no officer will ever call you on the telephone requesting fines be paid on an active warrant," police added.
Anyone who receives a similar call is asked to report the incident to the law enforcement agencies in their jurisdiction.
