After review, board members are now considering pay raises for all employees, as well as step increases for eligible employees, the Fulton County School System said.

If approved by the school board, the budget would include a 5-percent raise for employees who are paid on the teaching salary schedule and a 3-percent raise for all other staff members.

Those who teach special education would receive an additional $3,000 supplement to their fiscal year 2017 salary. In addition to the increase, no employee will experience furlough days or pay cuts, the system said.

“Giving our employees a pay raise and step increase is one of the tangible ways we’re able to show our appreciation for what they do every day for students,” said Board President Linda McCain. “Despite a 1.5 percent growth in the tax digest, we are in a very good place with our financial resources. This is due to our schools’ and departments’ diligent spending and the board’s oversight of financial planning.”

In total, the general operating budget is expected to be just over $952 million. The fiscal year 2017 budget is expected to be tentatively approved May 19, with final adoption slated for June 7.
