Recycle Bulky Items On April 29 In Johns Creek

Residents can recycle or donate clothing, electronics, furniture and metal items such as bicycles, lawn mowers and grills.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- On Saturday, Johns Creek residents will be able to recycle clothing, furniture, home medical equipment and other hard-to-dispose-of large items at the city's Bulky Items Recycling Day.

The event will be held April 29 at Alcon Laboratories in Technology Park, and provides a way for Johns Creek residents to recycle or donate items such as furniture, clothing, lawn mowers, bicycles and electronics.

The collection drive – for Johns Creek residents only – is hosted by the city and Keep Johns Creek Beautiful and runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alcon Laboratories, which is at 11460 Johns Creek Parkway.

Attendees should expect delays and arrive well before 1 p.m. Reusable items will be donated to charity. The following items will be accepted for recycling or reuse:

  • Appliances: refrigerators, washers, dryers
  • Electronics: cell phones, computers & accessories, televisions
  • Metal items: bicycles, grills, lawn furniture, scrap metal, file cabinets, lawn mowers
  • Home medical equipment: wheelchairs, walkers, canes, shower seats, etc.
  • Fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent lights
  • Cooking fats/oils/grease

The following items – in good reusable condition only -- will be collected by American Kidney Services:

  • Men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing
  • Shoes and accessories
  • Working electronics like televisions, CD players, and DVD players
  • Cookware and serving utensils, silverware and glassware
  • Small appliances
  • Decorative items
  • Drapes and linens
  • Small furniture
  • Books, toys

Please do not bring the following items:

  • Furniture that is torn, stained, broken or structurally unsound, mattresses, box springs
  • Office furniture, pianos, game tables, large entertainment centers
  • Carpet/rugs, exercise equipment, waterbeds
  • Playpens, strollers, car seats
  • Paint or household hazardous waste; or any fluids including motor oil and anti-freeze
  • Construction and demolition materials, yard debris, household trash
  • Tires

Some items are not suitable for recycling or reuse, and residents can contact their private waste hauler about collecting those items.
