Roadkill Dumpster Moved To Another Site

The city of Johns Creek received a complaint of odor coming from the dumpster at the intersection of Medlock Bridge and State Bridge roads.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The city of Johns Creek said it has relocated a dumpster used for temporarily storing -- among other items -- animal carcasses.

The dumpster, which was located on a small parcel at the intersection of State Bridge and Medlock Bridge roads, was used to collect road debris, including dead animals, city spokesperson Doug Nurse said.

That parcel, Nurse stated, is also used to store equipment and supplies such as sand and salt the city uses for winter weather events.

"The site is tucked between several commercial-type entities, and is in a central area of the city," he added.

However, an odor complaint submitted to the city propelled Johns Creek officials to relocate the dumpster to a new home next to the former Cauley Creek Water Reclamation Facility, Nurse said.

According to WSB-TV, one business owner described the smell as "overwhelming," particularly during the dog days of summer.

Nurse said the new, "remote" site will "avert any negative impacts on quality of life for businesses or residents."

"We will continue to monitor the situation, and will take whatever steps are necessary, but we believe this will take care of the problem," he added.
