I had the pleasure of meeting Karin and Jay of Richland Rum and they gave me an insightful tour of their facility and the step by step instruction on their distilling procedures. While most rums use fermented sugar cane and molasses, Richland uses Georgia grown pure sugar cane and no artificial colors or flavors. A process that takes approximately 18 months in time is made to perfection and tastes absolutely smooth and delicious. You don’t have to mask this spirit with juices from in cocktail but this rum can be sipped “straight-up.” You can taste their attention to detail in every sip.

While I enjoy Richland consumed traditionally, it has been used in other favorite recipes from notable local companies such as High Road Craft Ice Cream, Monday Night Brewing and Chocolate South. If you appreciate a spirit that has been distilled with care you will definitely love this rum. The distillery is expanding so  if you’re inquisitive, journey down to Richland and take a tour of the distillery.
