Sea Scout Ship 22 To Host Open House

Sea Scout Ship 22 will hold two open house events this week in North Fulton County.

The first meeting will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM, Thursday, June 9th at Chick-fil-A, located at 4285 State Bridge Road, Alpharetta.

Please join us for an informal get together. This is open to both boys and girls age 14 and older.

If you cannot attend this event, another meeting will be held from 2 PM to 5 PM, Saturday, June 11th at Morgan Falls Overlook Park, 200 Morgan Falls Road, Sandy Springs. There will be a sailboat demonstration at the Saturday meeting.

According to the Boy Scouts of America's Atlanta Area Council's website, Sea Scouts is a specialized segment of the Venturing program, which was organized to address members' boating skills and promote knowledge of our maritime heritage.

Sea Scout units, called "ships," focus on sailing and cruising either sailboats or power vessels. During the boating seasons, Scouts learn to maintain and operate the vessel, with a focus on learning the safe and proper methods of handling boats. Sea Scouts also learn the meaning of buoys and lights, how to take advantage of wind and tide, and how to drop anchor or approach a dock.
