Shakerag Park Improvements, Budget On Johns Creek Agenda
City leaders will consider adding a fishing pier, walking path and conservation deck at the park.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The Johns Creek City Council on Monday will consider approving contracts to make improvements at Shakerag Park.
According to city documents, staff members will recommend to city leaders that they split the projects into two contracts: one with Riley Contracting to build a wildlife conservation deck for $23,325 and a fishing pier for $39,766; and another with Precision Landscape Management for a trail/sidewalk extension project for $95,500.
City Council members will consider the request at their Aug. 15 meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m.

The conservation deck will be located on the northwestern edge of the existing lake, and allow visitors to see across the body of water, towards the track and fields and into the wooden nature trail area between the park and behind Shakerag Elementary School.
The fishing pier/dock will include a 20-foot floating walkway, and handrails will also surround both structures for safety reasons. It all also feature seating and fishing stations. Finally, the asphalt pathway will connect the observation deck and pier/dock to the main park, parking lot and will continue to the community room at Fire Station No. 62.

All three components will be complaint with the Americans With Disabilities Act, and the cost for all three improvements can be reimbursed with 2015 Community Development Block Grant funding that's been allocated for ADA improvements at the park, the city notes.
Also on tap for Monday's meeting is the first reading of the fiscal year 2017 budget. The budget is proposed to be $56 million, and includes funding for various parks and recreation and transportation projects.
Monday's meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at Johns Creek City Hall, which is located at 12000 Findley Road Suite 300.
