Student Leadership Johns Creek To Host Senior Device Training

During the event, the students will be working with seniors to help them learn different features on their devices.

From Student Leadership Johns Creek: When you think of a classroom setting it is normally the older individual instructing the younger people, but when it comes to high-technology devices the opposite is often true. Sometimes learning about new technology can be tricky, and a bit frightening. Student Leadership Johns Creek in conjunction with AT&T are facilitating a hands-on workshop on Saturday, April 14th at Park Place at Newtown Park (3125 Old Alabama Road, Johns Creek) from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.

During the event, the students will be working with seniors to help them learn different features on their devices. Last year’s hugely successful event had many seniors arriving loaded with their various devices and specific questions while others wanted to understand how to turn the thing on and keep it from turning off. According to Johns Creek High School student Sarina Parikh “it was such a fulfilling experience.I was so glad that I was able to teach community members about technology and also learn some valuable life lessons from them!"

Many seniors don’t know how to fully use their phones and tablets, many are afraid to explore their devices, teenagers, however, have an almost intuitive knowledge of these devices, it is a perfect mix for this training session. Seniors and teens will work one-on- one to assist with the complexities of such issues as font size, finding various apps, changing settings to make the devices more user-friendly for a senior, or just to explore how to load a photo album. If you are interested in participating in this senior device training session, please RSVP at parkplace@johnscreek.gov or call 678-512- 3430.
