Student Leadership Johns Creek Kicks Off 2017-18 Program
This year 92 students participated in the program and will develop leadership skills by working with "feeder" schools or through NPOs.
From SLJC: Student Leadership Johns Creek (SLJC) kicked off their 2017-18 program on Saturday, August 5 th . This year we have 92 students representing the four Johns Creek High Schools; Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek and Northview. The students spent their retreat day at Urban Escape Games. This year we were fortunate that Johns Creek City Council member Lenny Zaprowski took time out to join the students for part of the day.
“These young leaders are so smart, it was fun getting to know some of our Johns Creek students a little better and it was even better that our group escaped the game!” said Councilman Zaprowski.
The students this year will have the option to develop leadership skills by working with “feeder” schools or through a non-profit or community outreach effort. Future sessions will include a day at Georgia’s capitol where they will meet State legislators along with a visit to the Fulton County Government’s center and the Department of Revenue and an unforgettable experience at the Fulton County Jail. “The connection to Johns Creek, and our business and civic leaders is an invaluable experience for these students to have in High School. It can help them with networking for internships, jobs, enhance their college experiences and hopefully, make them want to return to Johns Creek after college,” states Ron Jones, the founder of Leadership Johns Creek, a 501c3.

Shadowing a business or professional person at his/her job to explore career opportunities is the highlight of our second-year student’s leadership training. Furthermore, these students will learn the importance of their digital footprint while creating an on-line portfolio that includes a professional resume, LinkedIn presence and training in the development of their personal brand.
The two year SLJC program is managed by an advisory committee under the direction of Leadership Johns Creek, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, in collaboration with Fulton County Schools. Aside from managing the day to day functions, the Executive Director, Irene Sanders, provides leadership by example to all of the students and the community. She is a Johns Creek resident and mother of two graduates of Johns Creek high schools and also serves as a Johns Creek Planning Commissioner; she knows first hand the importance of leadership skills. Fundamental to the program is a rigorous application process that includes those students who have demonstrated solid or emerging leadership qualities.
