Student Leadership Johns Creek Recognized By Fulton School Board

Students created brochures to promote the event and to encourage voter registration.

From John's Creek Student Leadership: Student Leadership Johns Creek Secretary of State Ambassadors were recognized on Election Day for their successful efforts to coordinate the first-ever, student-led debate for mayoral and city council candidates in the city of Johnes Creek. Steve Smith, Chief of Staff for Fulton County Schools had the following remarks at the meeting: “The work that these students performed prior to today’s election has been extraordinary. Let me share with you briefly what this group was able to accomplish. As Student Leadership Johns Creek Secretary of State Ambassadors, our nine honorees organized, promoted and hosted a city-wide debate for residents. Students created brochures to promote the event and to encourage voter registration; conducted research on topics and issues important to Johns Creek residents; developed an appropriate list of questions for candidates; served as moderators for the debate; and videotaped the event for posting on social media and YouTube.

I want to remind everyone – these are high school students!” The nine students recognized are students at Northview, Chattahoochee and Johns Creek high schools:

Nathaniel Alemayehu, Caroline Custis, Adiva Dutta, Aniruddha Gupta, Kaitlyn Jung, Kriti Kothari, Vanisha
Kudumuri, Olivia Logan, and Sarah McWhirter. Student Leadership Johns Creek, is a competitive program that has been a highly-valued part of the community for over 6 years. Students come from Centennial High, Chattahoochee High, Johns Creek High and Northview High. Applications for the next Student Leadership Johns Creek class will be available beginning December 1, 2017 at each schools counselor office or on-line at

The Leadership Johns Creek Secretary of State Ambassadors, of which the nine honorees represent, work in conjunction with the Secretary of State’s office to educate and encourage citizens to become involved in local politics. The political debate arranged by our students in September has received praise from across the city of Johns Creek, Fulton County and from the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office. Their outstanding work underscores the importance of community partnerships and collaboration and re-enforces our collective role in educating and supporting our students.
