Winners in that event will be announced at 12:30 p.m.
Students at the north Fulton high schools -- Cambridge High School, Centennial High School, Chattahoochee High School, Independence High School and Johns Creek High School -- will kick off their competition at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at North Point Mall’s West Court, which is at 1000 North Point Circle in Alpharetta.
Private schools Kings Ridge Christian School and The Cottage School also are participating. Winners in that event will be announced at noon.
Judges will evaluate the canned food structures on creativity, stability and difficulty, and then award cash prizes – up to $1,000 – to the winning team’s school.
There is also a People’s Choice award where the public can vote for their favorite can structure. After judging, the structures will be left on display for the next week and then disassembled and donated to local charities. In North Fulton, the food items will be donated to North Fulton Community Charities, and in South Fulton, donations will be made to Charitable Connections.
The “Can Do Good” design competition is sponsored by Fulton County Schools, the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, South Fulton Chamber of Commerce, North Point Mall, Fulton County Government Center, Custom Human Resource Solutions and the architectural engineering firm of Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood.
