Meet Widget and Gadget, a brother and sister combination in search of a home and family!
What a beautiful pair these furry kids are! Both are Shih-tzus who are 10 year old senior dogs, and each weighs in at around 18 pounds. Widget is the little tan/cream colored girl and Gadget is the gray/white colored little boy.
Each one is spayed/neutered, up-to-date on their vettings and current on all shots. They are also house and crate-trained and microchipped, and ready to be adopted into a loving family and home.
Widget and her brother, Gadget, were pulled from a high-kill animal shelter just a mere 24-hours before they were scheduled to be euthanized. Little Widget (the female) was very underweight, covered in fleas and flea dust, and extremely matted. Poor Gadget (the male) was also emaciated, eaten up with fleas, and severely matted. Additionally, Gadget had a ruptured cornea which caused him tremendous pain and the vet feels he was left in this horrific condition and in pain for quite some time before being placed in the shelter.
These two precious older souls were prime examples of what happens sometimes with older, senior pets who become neglected and often abused at the hands of their owners. Many are left to die in their awful condition, or like these two, turned into a shelter where their lives are immediately in danger of being put down. The average person turning in their pets at shelters do not have any idea those animals are the FIRST ones to be euthanized, rather than dogs and cats who come in as captured strays.
But the great news is they were both saved, and became part of the "Angels Among Us Pet Rescue" family and are now actively looking for their forever homes and families. Shih-tzu's often live very long, healthy lives, so this pair have many more very good years ahead of them! Permit me to tell you a bit about each of these precious, loving little souls:
WIDGET: She adores her toys! Soft, squeaky toys! In fact, her foster mom says little Widget will attempt to take them with her, literally, everywhere she goes.....inside, outside, in the car, in her bed.....everywhere! But, she also equally loves snuggling - next to you on the couch or cuddled up against you in bed! She adores and loves being near her person at all times, and longs for that physical contact between herself and her human. Her little tail never stops wagging and is constantly in motion! In fact, when she becomes really excited, her entire backside moves in perfect rhythm with her tail! Now THAT is some excitement right there, folks! She is a total little dollbaby who is the sweetest, most calm, kind and happy little girl any adoptive Mom or Dad could ask for.
GADGET: This boy considers himself quite the little patrol guy. He loves "watching" for chipmunks and squirrels through his foster Mom's windows. Although he doesn't bark at them, he makes his own funny "gruff" noise when he sees one outside. He lives taking naps in his comfy bedding and what he lives for is climbing inside his bed's high walls and be able to snuggle deep inside, feeling protected from the world. He is a wonderful little "greeter" when you walk in the door - with his "happy tail" wagging rapidly back and forth as he runs around you, anxiously waiting for you to reach down and pet him, and greet him back. He's not quite as crazy about his toys as his sister is; but he does play with them occasionally. He far prefers taking his lookout post and "watching" over just playing with toys. Now, Gadget does love to take walks and although he is a very mellow fellow, will sometimes display a streak of spunk and excitement, when the mood strikes him!
Widget would do best in a home that has limited stairs, or none at all, as she was born with the classic "twisted limbs" many Shih-tzus have. It doesn't cause her pain and she gets around just fine, with the exception of having to deal with alot of stairs on a constant basis. Gadget would do best in a home that has a fenced-in backyard where he can roam and patrol and look for critters of all types and varieties. Both Widget and Gadget LOVE riding in the car and both are perfect road companions. Little Widget especially needs to feel she's part of the human pack and loves to go whereever her people go.
Angels Among Us prefers this bonded brother and sister pair be able to be adopted together as a pair. There is a reduction in the adoption fee if both are adopted together. They don't need someone to be home constantly, especially when they have each other's company, but it would be ideal if one or more of the family members were either retired or worked from home, at least part-time. The reason? These babies are truly companion dogs and they thrive when allowed to be with their owners as much as possible!
