ADHD Medicine Choices Question

Question: Please help,ni don't want to put my 8 yr old on ADD meds and especially not Ritalin..we have a family history of Tics but I know he needs help with focus..we have been doing therapy and behavioral treatments...are there other options???

Answer: thank you for asking..love treating ADHD..and there are so many options these days,,,besides stimulants, let me give you a brief list to discuss with your child's pediatrician or child psychiatrist:
1) Vayarin ..FDA Approved medical food for ADHD..does require a Rx and in a nut shell this is omega 3 fatty acids hooked to amino acid to cross blood brain barrier so All to brain.,versus regular omega 3 still great but only 10%!gets across to brain..very safe!
2.) Strattera...non stimulant ADHD medicine, with proper dosing often quite an impact
3.)intuniv..lam other non stimulant ADHD med.
3.)Kapvay...another non stimulant
 ADHD med
4.)off label...Wellbutrin
5.) and numerous stimulants and longer acting ones tend to not cause tics as greatly as shorter acting ones...but understand your fears and concerns...
In Hands of a Specialist in utilizing these medications, your son should be fealty helped with tics avoided or minimized in terms of risk...see if non stimulant options exhausted before jump to stimulant medications if possible!
Good Luck to your son! he is lucky to have such a
Concerned parent...if I can be of more help, please send another question or call for more help! Please discuss with your physician and find the right medicine.
