Cobb EMC recently joined Pine Mountain Middle School for the Junior Solar Sprint Project. The project allowed magnet students to use their scientific knowledge – gained in the classroom – to create innovative designs for solar cars.
Prior to the competition, Cobb EMC provided science classes with solar vehicle kits that included a solar panel and electric motor. Students were instructed on how to design cars that could race the track using only solar power.
Teams of students competed in the race to test their solar car designs. Competition winners included eighth graders Daniel Keever and Jonaiss Soltren. Both winners received Six Flags season passes from Cobb EMC, and the top sixth and seventh grade finishers received $25 American Express gift cards.

The Junior Solar Sprint is one of the ways that Cobb EMC demonstrates its commitment to educating students about renewable energy sources, such as solar energy. Cobb EMC also sponsors the Sun Power for Schools program and installed a small-scale solar power generating station at Lovinggood Middle School to demonstrate how solar power is generated.
