Bird-Count Event Set In Kennesaw
The local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter is organizing the event, which will help scientists.

KENNESAW, GA — Calling all bird watchers! You're invited to help count birds next month in Kennesaw.
The Daughters of the American Revolution’s Kennesaw Mountain Chapter is inviting the community to join the citizen-science project on Saturday, Feb. 17. The local DAR’s Conservation Committee will host a public bird count in Kennesaw in cooperation with bird watchers across the nation for the annual Great Backyard Bird Count.
The project is sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society.

"Our chapter’s goal is to protect and preserve Kennesaw’s rich history including wildlife," said Loriann White,
chapter regent of the Kennesaw Mountain chapter, which was established last April. "Our members are thrilled to invite the community to join with us and communities across the state and the country in this important effort."
According to Tracy Gaudlip, who leads the conservation committee, the bird count is important because it
helps scientists learn how to protect birds in a changing environment. More information on the Great Backyard Bird Count can be found here.

The DAR group will be meeting at the historic Train Depot across the street from the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History at 2829 Cherokee St. in Kennesaw from 11:30 a.m.-noon on Feb. 17.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War.
