Cobb County District Attorney To Speak At Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, GA — Cobb County District Attorney Joyette Holmes will speak to the Kennesaw State campus community on Nov. 13 as part of the University’s observance of Ethics Awareness Week. Holmes’ talk at 11 a.m. will be followed by a question-and-answer session, in Prillaman Hall room 1105 on the Kennesaw Campus.

“I am looking forward to sharing my perspective on ethics during KSU’s Ethics Awareness Week,” Holmes said. “Every aspect of what we do and say requires us to have goodwill with the people we interact with. That goodwill begins with our reputation for being of good character and of high ethical standards.”

Holmes became Cobb’s first female and African-American district attorney when Gov. Brian Kemp appointed her this summer. She previously was the Cobb County Judicial Circuit’s elected chief magistrate judge, during which time she served on the Judicial Council of Georgia and as first vice president of the Georgia Council of Magistrate Court Judges. Prior to serving on the bench, Holmes was a prosecutor in the district attorney’s office and ran her own private law practice.

Holmes’ community involvement includes volunteering as a board member for MUST Ministries, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Cobb Community Foundation. She received the Thurgood Marshall Award from the Cobb Ministerial Alliance and was recognized as a Woman of Achievement for the Cobb County NAACP and as one of Cobb Life Magazine’s “20 Rising Stars Under 40.”

Kennesaw's Ethics Awareness Week, set for Nov. 11-15, is part of the University System of Georgia’s comprehensive Ethics and Compliance Program. In addition to the featured speaker, Kennesaw State will host activities and events throughout the week to bring awareness to the importance of an ethical culture and to recognize and promote the University’s shared values of integrity, excellence, accountability and respect.
