Cobb Student Arrested For School Shooting Threat

The student, who was arrested last week, told police he was only joking.

KENNESAW, GA — A Cobb County high school student has been charged with making terroristic threats after police say he threatened a shooting at his school.

Richard Lawrence Jennings is a student at Allatoona High School. According to Cobb County Schools police, another student reported that Jennings said he was "going to shoot up the school."

Jennings, of Kennesaw, admitted saying that, but said he was kidding, according to his arrest warrant. According to Cobb County Sheriff's Office records, he was arrested Thursday afternoon and booked at Cobb County Jail. He was released on bond Friday morning.

Schools around metro Atlanta and throughout the United States have seen an increase in threats of violence in the wake of the Valentine's Day mass-shooting at a school in Parkland, Fla., that killed 17 people and wounded another 16.

Also last week, a 15-year-old girl was arrested for making what police say were false threats of a shooting at South Cobb High School in Austell. Police did not release details of the threat, but said the girl did not have the resources to follow through on what she threatened.
