Georgia Milestones Testing Begins this Week at Awtrey Middle School

Simple test-taking techniques and strategies for students at Awtrey Middle School.

It’s time to think about Georgia Milestones testing which begins this Wednesday, April 15, 2015. This year we are teaching the students ways to reduce test anxiety, because research shows there is a direct correlation b/w reduced anxiety and positive performance on tests. As outlined in the training video, here are some of the helpful tips researchers suggest to prepare for taking a test:

  1. Get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep the night before a test.
  2. Eat a healthy breakfast to fuel your brain.
  3. Get your blood pumping the morning of a test (i.e. jog to your bus stop).
  4. Positive self-talk can work. Tell yourself you are going to do well.
  5. Peppermint can actually stimulate your brain - sounds weird, but what the heck - have a mint!
