Health Coach course delivers wellness, education

The Health Coach Certificate program is designed to expand one's expertise in areas of exercise science, fitness and behavior modification.

Health insurance changes, personal weight loss, and coaching children are some of the many influences for graduates of the Health Coach Professional certificate program at KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education. This course starts Feb. 15 and is designed to expand one’s expertise in areas of exercise science, fitness and behavior modification.

“Having a diabetic daughter and the rapid changes in health insurance are a few of the reasons why I wanted to gain this knowledge and certification,” Johra Master, 2013 graduate, said.

Jermile Richards, 2015 graduate and high school football coach, said, “This class was a great opportunity for me. I would eventually like to help [children] with obesity, teach them how to change their behavior, and give them information on their bodies.”

After losing 100 pounds, 2014 graduate Amanda Ogletree said, “I want to use my personal experience to help and encourage people like me. The class was very helpful and useful. Beth [Linn] used a lot of personal testimonies to make it real, along with a lot of group and hands-on activities.”

Linn, who has been teaching the course since its inception, is a certified personal trainer. She earned her MBA from Bloomsburg University and is the CEO of Real Fitness.

Andrea Cochran, program director, said, “Our health coach program is a great way to enhance one’s knowledge and experience in the healthcare field. It is also a way for people to learn more about what it takes to live healthier.”

Students in this course will learn how to incorporate physical activity and develop plans for healthier eating habits and behaviors. Cochran said, “Current health and fitness professionals can enhance their current careers, but this course is also open to those interested in improving their personal health and that of their family and friends.”

The Health Coach Certificate is approved for VA Education Benefits. Payment plans are also available on a case-by-case basis. For more information, visit ccpe.kennesaw.edu, call 470-578-6765, or email ccpe@kennesaw.edu.
