Honoring a Lasting Legacy

Kennesaw State is beginning this semester by celebrating and remembering the life
and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King inspired change through non-violence
and in doing so helped alter hearts and minds. He and other members of the civil rights
movement encouraged progress for a nation of people seeking to live meaningful lives.

It is important that KSU honors his life and that for which he stood. Kennesaw State's
heartfelt commitment to inclusion is in keeping with Dr. King's promotion of equal
education for all.

KSU launched its week of activities honoring Dr. King last Thursday with a virtual
keynote address by the Rev. Harold Middlebrook, a retired pastor who worked with the
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement of the 1960s. The
Rev. Middlebrook spoke to the theme of the MLK Week of "Building Bridges Not Barriers"
with a message of hope for loving and sharing as a way of bridging the divide in society.
It was an inspirational event that also included tremendous vocal performances by
the KSU Gospel Choir. For those of you who were unable to tune-in, you can watch it here.

Our MLK Week celebration continues this week with multiple worthwhile activities,
including a day of community service at various volunteer sites and a virtual reflection
on Dr. King’s legacy – "Six Voices Celebrating Dr. King." To see the full schedule

While we resume our activities on campus during this challenging period, KSU will
continue to remain true to its principles as we work to provide the best educational
experience possible for all of our students. I encourage you all to engage in this
weeklong celebration for Dr. King and take the bold steps to live a life worth celebrating.
