Each January, roughly one in three Americans resolve to better themselves in some way. According to a study by the Opinion Corporation of Princeton, of those who do set resolutions, 47 percent are related to self-improvement or education. Melissa Amavisca, KSU Continuing Education graduate is one who set a goal and continued to move forward with her education. Today, Amavisca is making a daily impact in the rapidly expanding healthcare field with the certificates she earned at KSU’s Continuing Education. Her drive and determination didn’t stop there. After completing each certificate training course, Amavisca successfully passed the state and national exams for each program. She also acquired a Certified Patient Care Technician certification to boost her résumé.
“I was interested in the CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) program at first because I wanted to work in a nursing home to gain some experience,” Amavisca said. “I took the CNA program with no intent of taking anything else, but I fell in love with KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) and the staff,” she said. “I came back and took Phlebotomy Technician and EKG Technician.”
With 12 classroom-based professional certificate programs and more than 25 online-based programs in health care training, CCPE offers prospective students several paths to a successful career at a fraction of the time and cost of similar programs. The Open House, held at the KSU Center on Jan.11 from 6 to 9 p.m., will feature interactive, information sessions exploring professional certificate programs from Medical Assisting to Certified Nursing Assistant to Phlebotomy Technician and Health Coach. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and speak with instructors and graduates to discuss programs and career options. Additionally, a 10 percent discount coupon will be given to all Open House attendees.
